Become A guide

The Richmond Tour Guys is looking for guides to lead walking tours of Richmond, These tours have evolved to combine history with storytelling to provide a fun outing for tourists and locals to learn about the city.

Do you enjoy storytelling? When friends or family visit, do you drive them around town to see some of the sights? Are you intrigued to learn about that building you drive by on the way through town? Do others say you’re an engaging conversationalist?

If you are outgoing, love talking to small groups of people and are confident in talking with others, then we think you would be a great person to talk to about becoming a guide. We can show you “the ropes” and have you guiding sooner than you’d believe possible.

We will supply you with scripted tours, together with the points-of-interest we’d want you to talk about. Once comfortable with the tour, you’re encouraged to embellish and make it your own, tailoring it to meet the interests of your guests. This is what makes tour guiding fun.

Send an email to info@richmondtourguys.com. In the Subject line, write “I want to be a guide.” Include a copy of your resume and what experiences you have had. Note if you have been a guide in the past or are an actor, (actors make great guides) let us know together with a phone number to call for a short interview. We will get back to you within a few days.

We conduct four distinct tours during a week, Thursday through Sunday. You are not required to learn all of them, but eventually, you’ll want to. And, you won’t be expected to work every day, but according to your schedule.

When we have openings, we will schedule a meeting with you to discuss particulars and provide you with a script for an abbreviated tour. You will then shadow a guide giving the same tour and when you are ready, a guide will shadow you delivering the tour. That’s all there is to it.

We are currently seeking guides for the upcoming tour season beginning in May.
