Half-Day Step-On

The Richmond Tour Guys have designed Customizable tours specifically for the Bus Tour Industry that begins with the foundational City Tour, weaving your way from one sight to the next, across the length and breadth of the city; downtown to and across the James River, back to Shockoe Bottom and from Church Hill to Carytown, seeing the sights and hearing the story’s of over 70 points‐of‐interest. This is the basic City Tour, designed to accomplish “seeing” the city. Since Richmond is the Capital of Virginia, most tour companies at minimum want their guests to walk Capitol Square, home of the 1860’s built, Thomas Jefferson designed “Roman Temple on the Hill,” the first Roman styled neo‐classical building in the new world and still purpose‐used to this day. Also here are a number of notable monuments and Virginia’s Governor’s Mansion.

Tour Length: 3 to 3 1/2 Hours    Tour Cost: Begins at $350.00

Full-Day Step-On

Whether meeting your Guide at your hotel or picking them up in the heart of the city, your Full‐Day Tour begins between 9:30 and 10 am and follows the route of the Half‐Day Tour seeing the same sights, with the option for 3 Add‐Ins and a hearty or light lunch included. There are three sights that are highly recommended. These are the Interior tour of the Capitol building; afterwards, walking the Capitol grounds followed by heading to Church Hill and touring the graveyard surrounding Historic St. John’s Church with a 30 minute tour of the church interior to learn about it’s 1740 construction and what led up to a secret meeting, famously occurring here on March 23, 1775 with George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Peyton Randolph, Richard Henry Lee and over 100 former Burgesses to hear a resolution that if found‐out, would have all arrested, tried for treason, ending in a guilty verdict and sentenced to death by hanging.

Again boarding the bus, a private lunch may be arranged at a downtown restaurant or if “on their own dining” is preferred, there are two areas suitable for large groups. After lunch, back on the bus, you head to the American Civil War Museum at Historic Tredegar which tells an all‐people, all‐sides story. In addition to the main display, there are short films and other displays to complete the story.

When finished with the museum, the group heads back to Brown’s Island, crossing near its western end to venture out, walking partway onto the T. Tyler Potterfield walking and biking bridge to look upstream at America’s First Highway, here viewed as the whitewater, roiling James River and its class III to IV rapids just over 30 feet below. Turning to walk back, the view is of the expanding Richmond skyline, spread left to right.

Boarding the bus, the group returns to their hotel or on to their next destination a short drive away.

Tour Length: 6 to 6 1/2 Hours including lunch Tour Cost: Begins at $500.00
